Of the birds ater thier kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive. Genesis 6:20

A "Kind" is a group of animals that descended from common ancestors created at the beginning of the world. Kind is not a term used in modern zoology, it would be similar to the "family" grouping just below "order" but it is not an exact comparison. Thinking of each kind as the animal family can help understand how many animals Noah had on the ark, he didn't need 2 wolves and 2 foxes, he
only needed 2 from the Dog family... or Kind.
